Scott B. Shawen, MD's medical career has taken him all over the world. While in the U.S. Army, Dr. Shawen completed fellowship training in Charlotte, North Carolina, at the Miller Clinic/Carolinas Medical Center. Prior to returning to Charlotte and joining OrthoCarolina, he served as an Associate Professor of Surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and Residency Program Director and Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Service Chief at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. While at Walter Reed, Dr. Shawen focused on lower extremity trauma and amputation surgery and was intimately involved in the care of wounded soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. Shawen deployed with the 14th Combat Support Hospital and supported the 7th Group Special Forces during his tour, caring for many local nationals and injured coalition soldiers. He returned to Charlotte 10 years ago after retiring from 21 years of active military service.

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The AOFAS designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the learner to earn credit toward the CME requirements of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery's Maintenance of Certification program. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABOS credit.
