Guidelines

• Participating programs and applicants are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct for Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship Programs and Applicants. 

• Participating programs must also utilize the Curriculum of recommended foot and ankle procedures and topics in training fellows. Fellowship directors sign a legal agreement annually, committing their program and faculty to utilize this Curriculum and abide by the Code of Conduct.  

• Participating programs may not offer any six-month or longer fellowship positions outside of the match prior to Match Day unless pre-approved by the AOFAS Fellowship Match Committee.

• AOFAS will give preference to faculty of participating programs over faculty from non-participating programs in the selection of symposia and educational course faculty as well as committee memberships and positions on the Society’s Board of Directors.

Fellowship Accreditation

The American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) Fellowship Accreditation Program provides evaluation, review, and approval of AOFAS foot and ankle orthopaedic fellowship training programs. AOFAS accreditation is a prerequisite for participation in the AOFAS-sponsored San Francisco Orthopaedic Surgery Match (SF Match).

AOFAS Fellowship Scholarship Grants

AOFAS Fellowship Scholarship Grants fund the education and training of fellows enrolled in a qualifying AOFAS-affiliated orthopaedic foot and ankle fellowship. Funded by the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, supported in part by grants from Stryker and DePuy Synthes, these grants are intended to fund specific endeavors of advanced orthopaedic foot and ankle education, scientific inquiry, and humanitarian efforts. 

Information for Coordinators/Administrators

Programs are responsible for the following items:

• Completing administrative paperwork (distributed by AOFAS before each new Match cycle) and returning it to AOFAS by mid-July.

• Entering and maintaining up-to-date information about your program on the SF Match website. All information except interview dates must be available to applicants as soon as registration opens.

• Notifying AOFAS promptly of any changes to your program's online profile (program director, faculty, program coordinator, contact information, etc.) so the Society can update its records and ensure your program receives all important communications regarding the Match.

• Downloading the Central Application Service (CAS) Instruction Manual for Coordinators from the SF Match website. It should be accessible from one of the tabs in your program account. Your program will be notified by SF Match when new applications are available for viewing/download.

• Entering your interview dates in your SF Match Account Profile.

• Reporting new fellows accepted after the Match or fellows dropped for any reason to AOFAS.
