Georgia Orthopaedic Surgeon to Serve Leading Foot and Ankle Society

Schaumburg, Ill. (October 6, 2025) – Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Gary W. Stewart, MD, has joined the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery, as a member-at-large.

“AOFAS has had a huge impact on my professional growth, and I want to give back by helping to move the Society forward,” Dr. Stewart said. “It’s important to have a group of dedicated, forward-thinking individuals who are not only great surgeons but also great mentors, educators, and advocates for our field.”

Currently, Dr. Stewart is the director of Resurgens Foot & Ankle Center in Atlanta, Georgia. After completing medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann University SOM in Philadelphia, Dr. Stewart completed his residency and fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia. 

In the AOFAS, Dr. Stewart serves as chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee, and member of the Governance and Program Committees. His past roles in the AOFAS include member of the International Outreach and Postgraduate Education Committees.

Besides his involvement in the AOFAS, Dr. Stewart is a member of the J. Robert Gladden Society Board of Directors; member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons PAC Committee; member and founder of the Atlanta Metro Foot Club; member of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society; mentor at Nth Dimensions; chair of the National Physicians Leadership Board at United Musculoskeletal Parnters; and former South Region representative to the Resurgens Orthopaedics Board of Directors. 

“I value collaboration and bringing fresh perspectives into the mix, and I take this responsibility seriously to ensure AOFAS leadership remains strong, engaged, and prepared for the future,” Dr. Stewart said. “I’m honored to be part of this process and help support the Society’s mission in a meaningful way.”
