Connecticut Orthopaedic Surgeon to Serve Leading Foot and Ankle Society

Schaumburg, Ill. (October 6, 2025) – Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Lauren E. Geaney, MD, has joined the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS), the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery, as a member-at-large.
“The Society has been an integral part of my development as a surgeon and educator, and I’m honored to be able to give back by serving in this role,” Dr. Geaney said. “I look forward to learning more about how the AOFAS functions, how we can continue to improve patient care, and how to inspire more residents to enter our exciting specialty.”
Currently, Dr. Geaney is a foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon and assistant professor at the University of Connecticut (UConn) Musculoskeletal Institute at UConn Health in Farmington, Connecticut. After completing medical school and residency at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Geaney completed her fellowship training at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.
In the AOFAS, Dr. Geaney served as chair and member of the Education Committee, program co-chair of the 2024 Annual Meeting and Winter Meeting; and member of the Women’s Leadership Committee and Young Physicians Committee. She also received the 2022 Women’s Leadership Career Development Award. Currently, Dr. Geaney is the chair of the Foot & Ankle International Electronic Media Editorial Board, reviewer for Foot & Ankle International, and member of the Fellowship Match & Accreditation Committee.
In addition to her involvement with the AOFAS, Dr. Geaney is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopaedic Association—Emerging Leaders Forum, and Arthroscopy Association of North America. She is currently a board member of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society.
