Schaumburg, Ill. (October 6, 2025) – Foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, Peter G. Mangone, MD, has been named secretary of the Board of Directors of the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS)®, the leading organization for lower extremity medicine and foot and ankle surgery.
“The AOFAS is an organization whose strength lies within its members and their committed participation, and I am honored to be selected as the next secretary of the AOFAS Board,” Dr. Mangone said. “I look forward to continuing the great work of the Board in advancing foot and ankle education, humanitarian efforts, research, and innovation to help improve patients’ lives.”
Dr. Mangone serves as the chief of Foot and Ankle Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Mangone completed medical school and orthopaedic residency training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, followed by a foot and ankle fellowship at the Center for Orthopedic Care in Cincinnati, Ohio.
With more than two decades of service to the AOFAS and its philanthropic arm, the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation, Dr. Mangone has held numerous leadership roles, including president of the Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Foundation Board of Directors. In addition, he served as chair and RUC alternate advisor of the AOFAS Practice Management Committee, chair of the AOFAS Advanced Foot and Ankle Course, and member of the Health Policy and Postgraduate Education Committees.
“The AOFAS has given me the opportunity to be a colleague, teacher, advocate, mentor, and leader,” Dr. Mangone said. “In my new role as secretary, I hope to help AOFAS members—especially residents interested in foot and ankle surgery as a career—get the most out of their experience with the AOFAS whether it be formal education at meetings, research support from the Foundation, or friendship within the field.”
